BIOMECHANICS REVELATIONS IN RESISTANCE EXERCISE

This is a film about the trajectory of weight training—from circus acts and “strength exhibitions” in the early 1900s, to a much more refined biomechanical strategy that optimizes muscular development with minimal wasted effort.

It also tells the story of the person who revealed the new strategy, while winning the Mr. Universe title along the way.

For nearly a century, “resistance exercise” was focused mostly on lifting heavy weights—“the heavier, the better.” That was the philosophy to which 14 year old Doug Brignole was introduced in the mid-1970s. However, throughout the following four decades of his training for bodybuilding competitions, he progressively realized the foolishness of that strategy—that there is no direct correlation between how much weight is lifted, and how much a particular muscle is loaded—and the inefficiency of most traditional resistance exercises.

Brignole’s “in-the-trenches” experience, combined with thousands of hours of research, resulted in the writing of his ground breaking book entitled “The Physics of Resistance Exercise”—which reveals the game changing perspective on what defines an efficient and optimally effective exercise, with the least possible injury risk. For most people, this is fantastically useful information. Others are too entrenched in their dogmatic beliefs, and would rather ridicule and condemn it (and Doug), rather than concede that there is a logically better strategy than the method they’ve used most of their lives.
